Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
