Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year after leading derogatory chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between Bamford & the Manager
Both men had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
