Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
