Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
