Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
