Both Deceased Students Identified in Brown University Attack as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences publicly, stating: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
