One of the co-founders of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he will independently develop the controversial product as part of a personal collection highlighting causes the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders maintain how the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has become an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism and Current Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company that originally created in 2016 for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

The founder stated that he plans to create other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns which the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, following many years with the organization, citing worries regarding how the company's autonomy was compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that the company can actualise the social mission, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
