A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
